Mr. Corrothers wasn't the best band director but he struck fear into our hearts and so didn't the Seniors my Sophomore year. The couple of times I skipped out on practice I ran for dear life when I heard the candance start up. I was afraid he'd catch me skipping and I'd be standing at attention for the rest of the day or worse. He taught us to go with the formation and not placement and of course repetition, repetition, repetition. He had the Seniors handle things in their section and everyone paid attention to them or we'd be standing at attention with our instruments up. He yelled at us if we got it wrong and yelled at us if we got it right.
Mr. Wiseman though he was there for a month or so taught more than Corrothers. I think that's what really helped us last year was having him for a little while. He made us go into a patch of knee high grass and march the show at band camp. He showed us that the most of the people were learning by placement since they couldn't do the show without their dirt spots, sprayed marks, and lines.
Mr. White, an aluminst of the band, is doing a good job. I just wish he would grow a back bone and do something about all the disrespect there is. I was so happy for my Senior year but slowly it's losing its' meaning. I waited patiently to be a Section Leader, to be able to help and teach the new Sophomores coming in the right way and not some jacked up way. They needed to be taught disicpline and if the only way to do that is by making them stand their for an hour or more then that's what I'm going to do. I don't need somone else to put their noses in and tell them differently. Undermining the Seniors authority is one of the things that has pissed me off this year and the other was at the South game. I'm sure most of them think they are better than us since they've been in first place for a couple of years while we've been coming in last. We don't need them to have bragging rights or anything they can say about us. I'm glad a couple of Sophomores can do as I request. Surely it's not that hard to stand at attention and not make us look like complete idiots no matter what the rest of the band is doing.
I love how being a Senior is slowly losing it's meaning...
